Steel Bracing Design Spreadsheet to BS5950
Available for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac users.
Available for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac users.
Spreadsheet for designing bracing in steel frames up to ten storey high. It is very versatile and covers four types of bracing: single diagonal, x-bracing, v-bracing and k-bracing. Spreadsheet is very easy to use with all calculations done automatically in the background. It also includes a 'live' diagram for quick appreciation of results.
This spreadsheet was specially developed for Windows and Mac users.
- Clear and easy to read output (all on a single page);
- Table with summary of calculation steps and results per storey; - For frames from one to ten storey high; - Covers: section classification, tension member analysis, compression member analysis, reactions; - Bracing types covered: single diagonal bracing; x-bracing (tension only); v-bracing; k-bracing; - Steel grades: S275, S355, S460; - Steel section types (tension only members): flat bars, equal angles, unequal angles; - Steel section types (tension and compression members): RHS, SHS, CHS. Hot rolled and cold formed; - 'Live' diagram with member sizes, frame dimensions, loads; - Option to specify amplification factor for sway-sensitive structures; - Option to specify effective length parameter; - Includes reduction for bolt holes in tension members; - Every storey can be controlled individually; - Based is based on British Standard (BS 5950-1: 2000). (Note: macros must be enabled for proper working of the spreadsheet. Follow instructions in this video)
- All connections are pinned;
- Bracing is assumed to be central on connecting members. No account is made for moment due to eccentric connections; - Class 4 slender sections are beyond the scope of this spreadsheet; - Block tear failure around bolts in tension members is not considered.
