Steel Beam to Beam Endplate Splice Connection Design Spreadsheet
(to BS5950 and Joints in Steel Construction: Moment Connections by BCSA and SCI)
(to BS5950 and Joints in Steel Construction: Moment Connections by BCSA and SCI)
A very easy to use spreadsheet for designing steel beam to beam endplate bolted splice connections subject to moment (positive or negative), axial load (tension or compression), and shear. It covers flush and extended endplates with two or four bolt lines and up to six bolt rows per endplate end. Joints in Steel Construction: Moment Connections book provides guidance on connections with two bolt lines only, therefore apply extra caution when using this spreadsheet for four vertical lines of bolts. Includes a very advanced and descriptive diagram showing connection in plan and elevation, it also includes dimensions. This makes it very easy to appreciate connection type being checked. The spreadsheet is easy to use and has a clear output.
Due to complexity of steel connections design (methodology, terms, requirements, limitations) this spreadsheet should be used by structural engineers only.
- A clear and easy to read output (all on a single page);
- Quick summary of utilization factors; - Enplate types: fulsh, extended one way, extended both ways; - Steel grades: S275; S355; - UC and UB sections; - Bolt types: 4.6, 6.8, 8.8, 10.9, untorqued general and higher grade HSFG bolts ('bearing type'); - Bolt diameters: M12, M16, M20, M24, M30; - Loading options: axial load (tension, compression), shear and moment (positive, negative); - Easy input of dimensions - these are clearly shown and updated on diagram in 'real time'; - Checks dimension requirements, and gives minimum and maximum allowed dimensions; - Two and four bolt lines supported; - Up to five bolt rows per end for flush endplates; - Up to six bolt rows per end for extended endplates; - Very advanced and 'live' connection diagram with dimensions; - Design is based on BS 5950 and Joints in Steel Construction: Moment Connections by BCSA and SCI; (Note: macros must be enabled for proper working of the spreadsheet.
